I don't know why, I don't know how, but somehow a good portion of you have got it into your heads that reading or writing yaoi is somehow advocating gay rights. I'm don't know where you got this delusion but the only thing yaoi advocates is the right of two (or more) men to have sex while you watch or read about it. If I look at pornography that features women and talk about it shamelessly does that make me a warrior for women's rights? Somehow I don't think that walking into a feminist convention and getting into an impassioned about just how great pornography is would get me a very nice reception no matter how eloquent I am.
Second of all when someone doesn't like yaoi or finds it disturbing why must you retort with "You like yuri don't you?" Perhaps you are confused with just how much guys like yuri and believe that we all think with our penises. Take the Naruto fandom. It is one of the largest (if not the largest) fandoms featured on FF.NET. If you don't know, Naruto is a shounen series (which means it is targeted more to male tastes) and it has a delightful cast of female characters, a seemingly excellent target for rabid yuri loving males. If we are to look at the number of M rated fics featuring Sakura and Ino (the most popular yuri pairing) we would find as of this writing 53** fics, three quarters of which are one shots.
If however we set our eyes on the most popular yoai pairing (Narusasu) we will find 3038** fics. Perhaps not all men like Yuri so much as you claim? Even if a guy enjoys yuri that doesn't mean that finding yaoi disgusting is hypocritical. It isn't. When people read stories they like to empathize with the main character, get sucked into the fantastical world, they want to feel happiness and sorrow with the character. Most guys I know don't want to feel a penis shoved up their ass with the character.
Next, don't get in a huff if we take creative licenses with our characters. In a recent post on fanfic rants complained about how irritating it was to make Haku a girl. Somehow I don't see how making a very effeminate male into a female is a greater stretch of the imagination than to make a guy who has pinned after girls throughout canon and show no sexual interest towards any of the male cast members gay. Sure you can say that Naruto and Sasuke are bisexual but that requires a pretty large stretch of the imagination too. Do not think that someone's sexual preference isn't part of their character, it is. Just because it seems natural to you to take a good looking guy who only cares about one girl and stick him with some other guy you find attractive doesn't mean that it seems natural to everyone (or anyone) else.
Liking yaoi does not make you any better or any worse than anyone else, don't act like you know more about the ways of the world. Finally, please don't flaunt your love of yaoi for everyone to see in everyone of your posts, your icons etc. I do not have to advertise my appreciation of heterosexual relationships with a picture a man engaging in sexual intercourse with a women. It doesn't make you're brave, nor does it make you rebellious. That really doesn't apply though on yaoi boards where you might as well advertise your paring of interest.
**numbers were found using character name filters, they may overestimate the actual figures but 3000 isn't going to go dropping to 10
Edit: When I mentioned Haku as being very effeminate I didn't mean 'girly looks' I meant the entire cast believing that Haku was indeed a female until a very quick explanation was given at a later point in time. I in no way advocate randomly swapping genders of majour characters in order to push them into otherwise gay pairings (I saw an absolutely dreadful fic where the author randomly made Naruto female to do a NaruHina Yuri fic).
Also for the purpose of this rant, yaoi = sexually explicit content between two+ male characters.
